Embracing 110 Schools, covering all branches of Science, the Centre is situated in the old pre-mediaeval city of Erice where three restored monasteries (one of which was the residence of the Viceroy of Sicily during the XIV and XV Centuries) provide an appropriate setting for high intellectual endeavour. These ancient buildings are now named after great Scientists and strong supporters of the " Ettore Majorana" Centre.
The San Francesco Monastery (former Viceroy's residence) is now the Eugene P. Wigner Institute with the "Enrico Fermi" Lecture Hall.
The San Domenico Monastery is now the Patrick M.S. Blackett Institute with the "Paul A.M. Dirac" Lecture Hall.
The San Rocco Monastery is now the Isidor I. Rabi Institute with the "Richard P. Feynman" Lecture Hall, the Directorate and the main Secretariat of the Centre.
There are living quarters in all three Institutes for people attending the Courses at the Centre.
One the above map:
Both at the Palermo International Airport "Punta Raisi" and the Airport "San Vinzenzo Florio" in Trapani-Virgi (Trapani-Birgi), a person (with the Erice poster or another sign) will wait for you just after the baggage claim.
Similarly, at the Trapani Railway Station, a person (with the Erice poster or another sign) will wait for you at the exit of the station.
The Center does NOT provide a pick up at the Palermo Railway Station.
The Center transport will bring you to San Rocco Monastery where you will be asked to register and will receive a lodging assignment.
Those who come by car should leave the car (and luggage) at a parking and come on foot to San Rocco Monastery. There is a guardian there all the time. You will receive a lodging assignment. Then you can drive there to deposit the luggage.
Those who come by themselves (by public transport, for example), please come to San Rocco Monastery. There is a guardian there all the time. You will receive a lodging assignment, and then you can check in into your accomodation.
You should have the Centre phone number with you (to call in case of flight delays or other trouble). This number is:
++39-0923-869133
Any changes in your arrival/departure information, as well as any other communications, should be sent directly to the Center, to Mr. Pino Aceto (pino.aceto@ccsem.infn.it), with carbon copy to Ms. Fiorella Ruggiu (fiorellazic@libero.it), (fiorella@ccsem.infn.it). This is the policy of the Center aimed at avoiding possible delays in communications. The Center is apparently very efficient in handling such last minute requests.

A detailed map of Erice showing the location of San Rocco Monastery (and other monasteries) is available on our homepage, under "Miscellanea" heading.
Lectures will be held in three rooms: San Domenico Hall (Auditorium), San Francesco Hall and San Rocco Hall.
In the San Domenico Hall there is a PC running Windows XP connected to a beamer (computer screen projector) and two overhead projectors.
Both San Rocco Hall and San Francesco Hall have a beamer (computer screen projector) and one overhead projector. The Center has promised to install a dedicated PC attached to the beamer in these two rooms as well.
Only San Francesco Hall has an old-fashioned blackboard (of green color). None of the three halls have a whiteboard either.
In the San Rocco Monastery there are some PCs running Windows to check your e-mails. The lecture room in the San Domenico Hall and part of the San Rocco and San Francesco buildings are also running a wireless network so that you can reach the Internet if your laptop has a wireless connection.
It is necessary for all participants, as well as for accompanying persons, to wear their identification badge at all times.
At lunch and dinner, it is advisable for participants to distribute themselves in small groups in order to avoid too many people crowding into the same restaurant, and in order to have faster service. Please wear your badge.
May you have a safe trip to Erice, and we are looking forward to seeing you there soon!
